![]() This is where I had left off in 2016, a view of the map from Armok Vision: But it ended up covering something like 60 Z-levels from the river to the volcano, which is crazy to navigate! The map I ended up going with had to be very long in order to get both in the same embark, so it's shorter along its width to not be ridiculously huge. I like to have both a volcano and a river on the same map for obvious reasons. Not satisfied with just living with that, I started over. Maybe even tunnel out some catacombs below?īut shortly after that, I realized that I had screwed up in a few ways, primarily that I had been playing on an old Lazy Newb Pack that hadn't fully incorporated the latest patches, so while I could have what looked like a tavern, no instruments would be made or played, and a number of important features of tavern-hood (and temple-hood) wouldn't be available. North of that I'm working on a temple, going to do pews and stained glass gem windows and probably have a little graveyard out back. Really want to see what kind of people I can attract. Maybe not the most creative tavern, but I like the idea of it just being your standard medieval kind of place. I guess if people get hungry they can have plump helmets. The basement has custom stockpiles for all types of beer, stills for making more, and all the components for that (dwarven ingredients and empty barrels). Pillars out front supporting a balcony, mostly just for looks I guess. The statue is a really cool historical display of a human striking down a troglodyte. The dance floor is solid oak, not quite done yet, I need my carpenter to decide to make a couple more blocks first to do the last row. Made consistently out of willow logs (not blocks, it's a log cabin kinda place) and obsidian for everything made of stone. For as small as it is, it took a lot of work. GIF of the different layers so you can see the whole tavern. I also saw some posts about how densely packed and rowdy peoples' taverns ended up getting, and how since they didn't really care about the goblin and human mercenaries milling around and owed them nothing, they liked the idea of having a tavern as the entrance to the fortress, so invaders first have to make their way through that crowd before they can do any real damage. You can get random visitors of other races who eventually join your fort?! I didn't know how cool the new buildings like the tavern and library were until I saw some posts on Reddit earlier and read up on them on the wiki.
